ABOUT OUR STORE AND STUDIO

OUR STORY

It all started in 2015 when I started to offer fused glass workshops to locals from a warehouse unit called 'Studio 8'.  So if you're wondering where the name Studio8 Glass came from, it's a reminder of where this all started!

As the workshops grew in popularity, I moved the business from the warehouse to Dockyard, allowing me to also offer the glass fusing experience to island visitors as well as starting to sell my own handmade jewelry.  The success of this led to me opening my first shop in the Clocktower Mall, Dockyard in 2018, and in the following year, I expanded the shop combining both the retail store and workshop studio.   This allows us to offer our fused glass workshops in-store in our working glass studio, where myself and my talented staff make all our own products for the shop, so you can create and learn alongside us.

The Studio 8 team are always creating and designing new ways to help you celebrate and remember your special memories.  We now have have a pink sand range, including jewelry, pens, wine bottle stoppers as well as our 'Make Your Own' lockets, where you can personalize your very own gift.  Explore our product range here.

We look forward to seeing you.

GLASS FUSING

In store we sell a variety of eye-catching fused glass jewelry and as well as unique fused glass ornaments, including snowflake Xmas tree decorations, Bermuda island sun-catchers.

We use a mixture of different types of glass, including local hand blown Venetian glass as well as
dichroic glass, which which displays different colors depending on lighting conditions.

Each item sold is individually handmade in-store by myself and my talented staff.  This makes every piece unique and one of a kind.
What is Glass Fusing?

Glass fusing is the joining together of pieces of compatible glass at high temperatures and we do this using one of our kilns which we have in store.

Firstly the pieces of glass are cut and shaped using a range of tools, carefully stacked or positioned together to create a unique shape or design and then pieces are fired in our kilns to approximately 1500°F.

As the temperature rises, the layers of glass soften and blend together, resulting in a final product whole, unique look once cooled to room temperature.

Fusing glass offers a myriad possibilities for creating both functional pieces and artwork with color and form.

PINK SAND

Since opening the new shop, we have expanded our product line and now also offer a range of pink sand jewelry, capturing a piece of Bermuda's beautiful pink beaches.

Bermuda's beaches are known for their unique pink sand. This natural phenomenon is created by tiny broken shells of a red marine organism common to Bermuda’s shoreline. This mixes on the seabed with our soft white sand, and results in Bermuda’s pretty pink beaches, which complement our tropical turquoise waves.

One of our most popular products is our pink sand locket which you can personalize in store at our "Sand Bar" where we have over 150 different charms to choose from. Find out more here.

BEACH PLASTIC

Our most recent product range is inspired by a not so natural, and sadly an increasingly common part of our shoreline.... plastic, or as we like to call it after it's had a Studio 8 transformation, our Bermuda Beach Booty!!

Whilst exploring our beaches during the pandemic, not only did we note the amount of plastics, rope and fishing nets washed up on our shores, but also the vast spectrum of colors, size and shapes it appeared in.  This inspired us to start our Bermuda Beach Booty collection where we collect plastic waste from our beaches around the island and transform it into beautiful gifts.

Not only has this allowed us to create unique handmade gifts, but also helps us to give a little back to the environment as well as keeping Bermuda beautiful!
